It's not just a steady hand. We work with sheet metal. The thickest things we weld on are 1/8 in thick. Most of it is #18 gauge (0.0478 inches) You can't just hammer down on the stuff. The thin stuff is actually MUCH harder to do than plate metal.
You have to watch your heat and wire speed. Too hot and you burn through. Too fast and it doesn't have time to dig in and fuse. Too cold and the weld just sits on top. Too slow and you burn a hole right in. Your gas has to be set right or else you get massive porosity (holes that kind of look like a wasps nest) and other contamination that ruins the integrity of the weld. Your nozzle has to be kept clean, or else you get bad gas coverage. You also can't just run a straight weld with sheet metal. You have to get a rhythm down and pulse the gun. (rapid finger taps on the trigger) You have to have the correct angle and distance as well as the correct length of wire sticking out from the nozzle. You need to be able to read the puddle (the circle of molten metal where your arc is). It tells you everything you need to know about how the weld is going to be. And yes. You also need a steady hand.
Logos has it right pretty much. It's a little more art than science.
These idiots can't do a single one of these.. If the metal is getting too hot, which happens very quickly with thinner material, lay off of it ant let it cool for a second..
These guys were in school for this stuff.. MIG is the easiest method of welding (what we use)
Don't get me wrong. The rest of us screw up from time to time, especially since the schematics keep getting changed, but we can usually see something wrong and fix it immediately. If something seems off but we don't know, we ask. We don't just shrug our shoulders and walk away. Our mess ups take minutes to fix. Theirs take almost an hour. That means less productivity which leads to a pissed off boss.
Wait...they screwed up that badly..using MIG!! I suck at welding and even I can get a decent weld with MIG....

All of that is proof why it's WAY over my head. The difference is I know better, to realize that and not screw other people up.

You know what really grinds my gears? "Nice" shaming. I don't mean shaming someone who is nice. I mean shaming someone under the guise of being "nice." Like for example, if someone says, "wow, that person was a rude jerk" and someone else comes along all, "awww, maybe they just had a bad day! You shouldn't judge." Or if someone gripes about their day at work and someone else says, "Aww, but at least you have a job! Some people don't. You should be thankful." How about you and your "niceness" die in a condescending fire? Awww, FWOOOOSH! Maybe you shouldn't "should" on others.

You weren't condescending enough. Try again. Although, you really shouldn't go around berating other people's venting. It's not nice.

Selfish passion is unquenching. What strength have you when you are a slave to your passions? What power without strength of character? To self centered rage, you will be chained. The dark side is no victory.
The long path to peace is through balanced emotions. The first step to gaining knowledge is recognizing your own ignorance. Serenity is patient, not passionate satisfaction. Find harmony by understanding chaos. Become one with the force, which will never die.

This is what you see when you look at Me and the other two guys' welds. Excellent bead work. "LOL, look at me. I can write cracky Jim Morrison-esk lyrics. GO!" But apparently can't spell '-esque'. You weren't condescending enough. Try again. Although, you really shouldn't go around berating other people's venting. It's not nice.

But apparently can't spell '-esque'. Ok... Quit yer bitchin', there are real problems in the world. <runs> I meant it exactly as I typed it, since the song is cracky and it deserved a cracky spelling. Is that the best you've got? Sit down, bro. But before we take over the thread with teasing and get off track . . . . The water company is DESTROYING all the yards down the street and I'm wondering what's going on because it's not like they would dare to tell us anything. The men doing the digging just stared at me when I asked for an explanation. I don't know if they didn't speak English or if they just didn't give any kriffs. (I'm betting on the latter.)

Wow, people actually thought that song had some kind of deep meaning? LMFAO.
I thought he was just going, "LOL, look at me. I can write cracky Jim Morrison-esk lyrics. GO!" Good to know I was right. Reminds me of when I wrote this poem where I used about 15 versions of the word "red" and the teacher thought I had made some tremendous statement about anger and death. Pfft, no. I was just showing off the fact that I am a walking thesaurus.
Yeah, I always had trouble believing it too. I was just like, "They still wouldn't really make any sense." Nirvana is another artist who's lyrics are often interpreted as being deeper than they are. Kurt repeatedly said in interviews he didn't care that much about lyrics, and most of them didn't have any real deep meaning. All of that is proof why it's WAY over my head. The difference is I know better, to realize that and not screw other people up.
I'm the same way, especially when he started going to school and would tell me about how class went. "Nope. Not for me, I'd be terrible at that job."

Clutch is also quite notorious for lyrics that make no sense. And I mean NO sense.
