I really like Paul Reed Smith guitars.

However, I really believe that you shouldn't buy any guitar unless you play it yourself. It's very easy to get caught up in the way a guitar looks or what features it has, but if it doesn't feel right then it's not worth it.

In a weird way, guitars are kind of like girls.  Cheesy

Fun fact: the traditional guitar shape is actually based on a woman's figure.

Personally, Schecter is my favorite guitar AND bass company. Every Schecter I've ever picked up has been a dream of an instrument. I'd have loved to have gotten one when I bought my Ltd, but I got a great deal on it, and I couldn't justify paying the extra money for the Schecter when they played so similarly. I remember the Schecter pups being hotter, but the same versatility was available(maybe a little less from the Schecter, due to the pickups being so hot.)

If I played guitar, I'd buy a Schecter Solo 6. All the tone(actually a little more), feel, and looks of a Gibson Les Paul, at a fraction of the cost.

@Hobby - Really? I wanna punch that kid.

@TJ - Well maybe someday you will get a Schecter! It's really surprising what you can find in cheap instruments, though. My electric guitar is worth about $200 and it plays well and sounds great!

I LOVE the Stones.  I really do, but I gotta admit, Paul Brady and the Forest Rangers nailed this remake.  I don't usually like remakes, but man oh man when they work, they are so beautiful.  Such stark similarities between my Knight Instructor, and his time in Vietnam, and my own.  Just now, it's all covered up by "political correctness" and "we still support the troops" crap.  The question I have, as a disabled vet: do you?  Shocked

Yes, really. I would have said something, but it wasn't worth it in my opinion. What could I have possibly done to make him see the error of his ways, you know? Guys like that are just daft. And besides, I have anger issues. lol. Bad idea all around. But I did put the guitar back Wink

I like it! It has a unique look to it, and it sounds nice too.

Wow, this article absolutely nails it. Cracked never fails me. lol. http://www.cracked.com/funny-7370-rhythm-guitarists/

I especially love this part:

But the fact of the matter is, most rhythm guitarists are just as good as the leads. They CHOOSE to be in the background, and enjoy the riffs more than the shredding. Rhythm guitarists either don't mind being unnoticed by casual listeners, or put themselves front and center, ala Rudolf Schenker.

Haha I love Cracked.  Cheesy

Seriously, though, rhythm guitarist don't get enough recognition (like bassists). I used to want to be a lead guitarist, but then I realized I was much better with rhythm, and enjoy it more. Bass guitar is very heavy on rhythm, which is why it's my favorite instrument. I can blend my sense of rhythm and guitar expertise into one powerful combo.  Grin

But if I had no choice but to play guitar, I would go with rhythm. My favorite guitarist is The Edge because he has a great sense of rhythm, and I just love how he uses those wonderful delays to create wonderful rhythms.

OK, just to throw this in the instrument direction again, I thought I'd offer this "guitar porn" for general delectation!

Not mine, but OH if I had £7,200!!!! (that's probably $10,000+ US)

First off, LOL. Second off, I wanted to be a lead guitarist at first too, but then I realized that rhythm was more of my thing. I've always been more of a follower than a leader, so the idea of being able to hang back and hold down the rhythm while another guy does the guitar solos has always appealed to me. I couldn't care less about being in the spotlight. Music is a group effort.

It's funny you say that Hobbit Wink
far as I'm concerned, in the band it's the bass, rhythm guitar, and drums that set the cadence for the performance.  My buddy in our band played bass, I was keyboards, and another friend was on drums.  Our lead vocalist/lead guitarist just followed the bass and drum's lead and so did I Grin there were quite a few fun improvs because of it.  Those were good times.  It's funny, but even though we aren't in the spotlight at all, our sections are the backbone and could be considered the "leaders."

I agree, but the way I see it is that the drummers are the leaders. They are the ones that keep time and provide the skeleton of the song. The bassists flesh that skeleton out, and provide those low-end frequencies to help fill out the sonic playground, as I like to call it. They also serve the role of being the conduit between the drummer and the guitarists.

Both of the guitarists do the same job as the bassist, except they handle the mid-range and high-range frequencies. At the same time, both guitarists play rhythm, it's just that when it's time to play the crazy licks or solos, the lead will take care of that, while the rhythm continues to hold down the fort with the rest of the band. Once again, it's all just a matter of filling out the sonic playground.

However, with that being said, not everyone has to fit into a rigidly set predetermined role. For example, Zacky Vengeance of Avenged Sevenfold is the rhythm guitarist, but he often harmonizes with Synyster Gates, the lead guitarist, during solos and other lead runs. At the same time, James Hetfield of Metallica has his own guitar solo in Master of Puppets.

But with all that being said, I still consider the rhythm guitarist to be a follower. Their job is to lend a hand to both the rhythm section and the lead guitarist. They're sort of the in-between guys who just salts and peppers the songs as they go. Well, very heavily salts and peppers the songs as they go. lol.

See, I'm the opposite. If I was playing guitar in a band, I'd have to play lead. I HATE strumming chords, I don't find it fun at all. That's why I don't play guitar anymore, I guess.

I respectfully disagree in the most friendly manner possible.  Smiley

The bass is also responsible for giving the song a "groove," something that makes it catchy or stand out. It also supports all guitarists and potentially keyboardist by playing the root note, or making a nice contrast by playing a different note within the same chord (be it the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, whatever).

The bass is the glue that holds everything together. Without it, the song loses depth.

Point!  If I wasn't on my own, I would so play the bass too.  I love playing the bass in the video games.

Do feel I need to stand up for the lead guitarists here, as people seem to think that we're all arrogant SOBs who just stand there and show of. We're not, and we don't.

When I said that the guitarists do the same job I was referring to the comment on filling out the sonic landscape. I was talking about how they fill out the frequencies that the bass is not capable of producing. I also (in the most respectful way possible) disagree about what you said in regards to what the bass's job is. That is highly dependent on how the bassist wishes to utilize his/her bass, and to a lesser extent, what the genre of music is.

I do see where you're coming from though with that last sentence, and I do agree. When you drop the bass out of the mix you no longer have that bottom end there and the whole song will sound hollow.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Wink

To be honest, I wanted to learn how to play the bass a long time ago. I find the sound of it very appealing, as well as the role that the bassist has in a band. My parents wouldn't let me get one though, so that is part of the reason for why I'm a rhythm guitarist.

Do feel I need to stand up for the lead guitarists here, as people seem to think that we're all arrogant SOBs who just stand there and show of. We're not, and we don't.

I don't think anyone here thinks that at all.
