Not all masks hide darkness...

« on: April 16, 2012, 08:29:34 AM »

Hello,

I just received my first Ultrasaber, a Guardian hilt in Guardian blue (yeah original I know) with a midgrade blade and Obsidian sound.

It arrived so quickly! I live in New Zealand, so I expected it to take forever, but it only took a week.

It was well packed, and everything was exactly as I had requested.

The Hilt is gorgeous, it is big, and heavy, and feels 'real'.  I played with the Obsidian options, but for this sabre I think the default sounds are fine, though the sensitivities needed some tweaking.

I would take some photos but there are already a tonne of Guardian pics round here, it is an awesome hilt.

The blade is vibrant blue, it is coming into winter now, so with the short days my girlfriend and I are thinking about getting another to spar with at night.  My German longsword training vs her Tai Chi...   ...I think I need a red sabre!  Grin

My girlfriend wants a Sunrider's Destiny sabre, but cannot decide on the hilt type, she is currently leaning towards an Archon for that Luke ANH look.

The shipping to NZ was quite expensive so if I was to buy her one, I would want to get myself a Sith sabre, I would love a Dark Prophesy LE, are they coming back sometime? Otherwise I think the Bellicose will make a good Sith hilt.

Any suggestions?

I really love this lightsabre, and am thoroughly impressed by Ultrasabers workmanship.  Thank you!

You're right, the Guardian in Guardian Blue is pretty unoriginal... but I certainly can't blame anyone for picking it!  That hilt is perfect for that color, it's like they were made to go together.

It's great that you're happy with it, and even better that your girlfriend wants one of her own!  Personally I think the Archon would look fantastic in SRD, she should go for it.  For your Sith hilt, the Bellicose could do fine (it can really go either way), but there are plenty of good choices.  The regular Dark Prophecy is a good Sith hilt, though none of us know when an LE version will be available with sound capability (except Ultra and Deep of course).

For her, going with a tai chi style id actually suggest an initiate hilt with a 32" inch blade, i think its really going to fit the one handed style extremely well, and the shorter blade is going to be more similar to anything she has used in the past with tai chi. Allowing a lot of nice fluid, precise movements.

I have to give light side point for the Guardian Blue and Sunrider's Destiny being my favorite colors.  If you go the Initiate Hilt route, I would pick the Initiate LE.  The gold bands really complement the Sunrider's Destiny quite well.  If you go FOC, get the Sunrider's Destiny with the Orange Flash on Clash.  They also complement each other well and many people will notice it.

I will have to see which hilt my girlfriend wants, she was originally attracted to the Aeon LE V3, which looks like an extended Initiate to me, but after seeing the Archon she is in love with the classic style.  Maybe after playing with my Guardian for a while she may decide a lighter hilt would be better.  She had the same thought as you bluespike, that the gold complements the SD.

I really like the Bellicose design, I just wish it had more in the way of choke points.  The photos make it look like the shroud is raised above the level of the rest of the hilt, and that is gets subtly thicker towards the pommel, is that true? One of the things I really love about the Guardian is the variable thickness, detail and colour of the hilt, while the Bellicose has the nice colour variation, it does appear to be very 'cylindrical'.

Is the Bellicose a modular MHS hilt? could I swap in a different, narrower grip?

After seeing the Dark Prophesy LE here on the boards, I really fell in love with that design.  If I got a regular Dark Prophesy, is it viable to remove the black in places, or would that be messy/destructive?

The Bellicose seems to be a very popular design though.  I have yet to see someone complain after getting one.  The Pommel is the only part on the Bellicose that is interchangeable.  In regards to the Archon, I have heard many great things about it being a great one handed saber.  It is very reminiscent of the ROTJ Luke saber.  The Archon is one that I will be getting in the future as the Archon V1 was my very first Ultrasaber.  Another one that she might consider looking toward is the new Monarch.

I really have to say I am impressed by the build quality of US.

I collect Transformers, and for a few years now, unlicensed transformers made by fan groups for other fans have been outshining what Hasbro and Takara have been putting out, making what the Transformer fans really want.  Ultrasabers seems to be doing the exact same thing for Star Wars lightsabres.  :-)

You recommended the Monarch bluespike? Um...  I afraid she has vetoed that idea, she thinks the monarch hilt looks, er, like something other than a lightsabre.

They're nice, right?  Considering the rate they're produced at and the price tag they carry (many other LED lightsaber replicas are $500+), I think the quality is superb.  I had my Consular sitting on the table the other day and I realized I just couldn't take my eyes off it... it's just nice looking.

Forgive me if that sounds lame... I swear I have a life... really...

No but seriously, you don't need me to tell you these things - you have a Guardian!  That's one heck of a hilt, lots of awesome detail on it.  As my fellow forum members said, an Initiate with a 32" blade (I recommend midgrade) makes a great single handed hilt.  Of course, the Prophecy line is also a good single handed option IMO, but then again I have bigger hands...

I and most of my friends thought the same on seeing the Monarch.

And I'd say take your pictures.  Each saber is unique... to paraphrase Full Metal Jacket, "There are many like it, but that one is yours."

Had not noticed that but I am beginning to understand why my wife likes the design so much now.
