Hello, so I am making one last purchase here at US for quite awhile. Running out of room to put all my sabers now lol. But my tax returns just came in and I planned on spending part of it towards a final buy here. I can't decide, maybe some of you could give me some helps and tell me the pros and cons of my ideas? So either way, I AM buy a consular but here are my two questions..

1. I know it's cliche but I'm getting a consular in CG, only color to get that saber in IMO. Now do I want to go all out on this saber and make it my first obsidian is the question. I have never been a big fan of sound, but I thought it would be cool to go all out on my last saber. What is so great about obsidian? I know a lot of people like it, but isn't it just sound? And there are only 4 fonts that I see on the ultrasabers home page or is there a lot more that I am missing? Also I have a Darth Maul master replica and I admit that sound is nice, but I just think that multiple sabers with sound would get slightly annoying when they all clash and stuff.

2. My other option is consular in CG, standard setup. Maybe Li-ion (better than normal batteries or just buy standard? is the LED more intense with li-ion?) and on the side I was going to get a DSI collectors edition with vert grooves in blazing red. I have been wanting a good red color because my Darth Maul MR is old and the blades and LED are very dim, so an UltraSsabers red saber would be pretty nice to have also, since all of my sabers except darth maul MR are light side colors.

So this is my problem and I would like to hear everyone else's suggestions from experience with obsidian. I am personally not that big of a fan for the sound, it's a nice feature, but somewhat unnecessary since 1/7 of my sabers has sound. I would love to hear any feedback or ideas if anyone has them. Thanks all!

Your Maul may have sound, but the Obsidian will blow that out of the water.  I have two MR Vader sabers, and the Obsidian board destroys them sound-wise.

The ability to customize the sound is also nice.  You can pick and choose from the fonts available via Ultrasabers....  you don't have to load an entire font, but can pick and choose sounds YOU like from each.  And with the new boards, there's quite a lot of room to load on effects.  I mean, the Maul FX boards use some pretty standard sounds because it makes sense for Hasbro/MR to do that - but your saber will sound EXACTLY how you want.  Want the idle hum to be lower and more menacing?  Done.  Want the ignition sound to sound less like a Sith Saber, and more like Luke's from ROTJ?  Done.  SO much can be done here.

You can also, with certain other programs, create YOUR OWN sound effects and load them on, to truly customize your saber.  I've not done this, but some folks have.  And there is a site, saberfonts.com, where folks have shared stuff.  Pretty awesome.

Finally, there are features tied to the Obsidian, such as Flash on Clash, where your saber can flash a different color when struck, which adds some cinematic verisimilitude to it.

I think you'd enjoy the Obsidian - I know I have.  Ultimately, your money and your decision, so good luck.

I agree with every thing Ed says.  Obsidian is the best thing that I had put into my saber.  I want to put it into my sink tube creation when they become available.  The software to change and mix/match sounds is really easy to use.  I was not too keen on my Flash on Clash because I started with Guardian Blue and Adegan Silver flash.  I purchased a new LED with Sunrider's Destiny and Orange flash.  The constrast was much better and I have been happy every since including getting lots of compliments.  I say, go for the gusto and get the entire package.  There has been a Flash on Clash video thread started to help you better picture what the color combos look like in the dark.  I hope you enjoy this purchase.

I wish FOC had been an option when I ordered...  I was about 2 months early.

Not that I regret my DWG at all...

Most of what's been said pretty much covers it for me as well. Customizing the sounds for a saber is great, you just can't beat it, and you can CHANGE the volume of the individual effects... as well as the sensitivity, so you won't have accidental clashes in a spinning session or something. The Flash on Clash effect is amazing, and it really adds realism to the saber. I love my Lith Ion batts as well, I dunno if they really make the blade brighter (I think they do) but they work great and save lots of money on batteries. lol Also... if you get Obsidian, you can also get an AV switch on there and the Consular in CG BEGS for a Red AV Switch. You just need it if you're doing a Qui-Gon saber on that hilt. lol

Of course, if you can afford it, I'd get the Red SI WITH the fully loaded Consular, just because BR is an amazing color that puts the MR Maul to SHAME. lol

You wont be dissapointed with the obsidian. It is evrything that everyone says it is. You can always get quick disconnects. Green and red led's. A red av switch would look great for both colors.

Thanks for the replies. More than helpful and have pretty much convinced me to get obsidian. The only thing is I will hardly use the saber because I stick to using a saber staff lol. But I wanted something of a nice collectible and what better way than with the Qui-gon replica hilt. I will definitely have to get a red av switch with it too. Maybe I'll just wait a few months and get a DSI with vert grooves another time. Because that saber in BR or FO will make a very good looking saber IMO.

My sabers won't be here until tomorrow, but I already down loaded the Obsidian launcher and the fonts from the website.  You can always go and listen to the clips in the launcher.  Thats what I did to see which ones I liked.  Lots of cool sounding fonts for your Jedi or Sith needs.
