Pardon the noob question.   What exactly is an AV switch?  How does it differ from a regular switch?

I noticed you can't get one with a stunt saber but it seems possible to order a saber with sound without one as well.  What is the difference between having one and not?  Does it allow you to turn sound on and off independent of the blade LEDs?  Otherwise what is its purpose and function?

Thanks.

AV switches are those sleek silver switched you see on pics of the Menace, Flamberge, etc. I personally get them whenever possible. They also have the option of being illuminated in various colors.

The reason they are not offered on stunt sabers (other than models with an activation box) is because the locking versions are too long to fit properly without the added depth of an activation box. Hope this has been helpful

Darth Logos pretty much covered it.

To answer your other question, no AV switches do not allow you to control the sound independently of the LED.

In my opinion AV switches are mainly cosmetic, however I have heard people say that they make a saber more comfortable to hold due to that fact that they are sleeker and don't stick out as much as the guarded switches.

I'd like to chime in with another question about the AV switches if I may. In a lot of the demonstrative videos the AV switches are always illuminated. Take the Archon v. 2.1: is it possible to get this saber (or any saber with an AV switch) in a non-illuminated version? I love the look of the AV switches, but I'm not a big fan of the illumination on them, but that's only my personal taste.

Very much so. In fact I have it on 5 sabers. When selecting from the menu of AV Switches one of them says NON-ILLUMINATED. This switch is all silver but still an AV switch. If you look at the sabers showcased on the main page of the web site, they all have the non-illuminated AVs. They look great, but cost the same as their illuminated bretheren.

They are also made of metal, making them more durable. Can't tell you how many of those guarded switches I've broken just from drops.

My question about sound was partly due to my thinking AV referred to audio/visual.  But then I realized I'd heard reference to anti-vandal.  AV = anti-vandal?

What does that mean?  I don't really "get" the reference.

Sorry, silly noob me.   Smiley
