Hi all

I have a couple of sabers with the standard set-up ( 4 x AAA NiMh).

Trustfire make AAA Li-ion batteries. Has anyone used these in a standard set-up saber? I can't see why they wouldn't work ...

Thanks

It wouldn't work because Li-Ion batteries output about 3.7V each so 4 of them would be almost 15V which would blow your LED.

^ He has it right. Check the voltage of the batteries. If it is 3.7, then no, you won't be able to use them without adding a Buck Puck. If it is 1.5, then you should be safe.

Thank you both, Darth P and Sarich.

Have also heard from Emory directly that I MUST NOT mix the set ups - and your helpful answers tell me why.

Sometimes you shouldn't try to out-think the clever people!

Thank you both - points to both of you.

Back in his box ( until the next bright idea)

There IS something you could do if you have enough room and a little soldering skill. If you got a buckpuck you could drive it with li-ion's through the buckpuck. That would allow you to switch batteries at will (though you'd have to keep the same types Li-ion or Alk or Nimh, mixing would be BAD). You might get away with 2 Li-ions and 2 AAA dummy cells as well. I would only try that in a stunt saber though, a soundboard or emerald driver board could get in trouble with that.

If you decided to dedicate it you could find out what the current draw is for your LED, and find out what sized current limiting resistor you want for the voltage you are using (google will find you the formula) and replace the resistor.

Sabers:
E-Series Aggressor, CG
E-Series Aggressor, FO
E-Series Steel Standard Issue, AS (parts stripped)
Customized Initiate V2, AS (internals from SSI + regulator and Li-ion)
2 Dominix V2 RGB w/Coupler

Remember, the saber and jedi exist to serve the force, but only one can serve the force without the other.

I agree. A resistor is a simple solution. Still one must know the skills first. Study up on the basics of ham radio, practice some soldering. Practice some more. Then you have a skill that can be transfered to all sorts of hobbies.

Good luck,

Thanks for the guidance . Back to college for me then!

I think I'll just live with what I've got - the performance of the NiMHs seems to be fine for the use my boys give them.

best wishes
