Ok so, I've got a complete set of Darth Revan armor on the way.
Needless to say I'm way excited!!!
My wife has agreed to construct the rest of the costume, but I don't know what kind of fabric to use.
The armor is high end, so the fabric should reflect that.
I'm not going for 501st approval, but close Smiley

The 501 does not have standards for Revan, that I can find, so I do not think that is an option, even to use as a guide.

That being said, Revan is a video game character so there is no real world canon image to use as a reference.

Sooooooo, in the spirit of most other Jedi costumes, natural fabrics look best. You can go with simple cotton fabric which comes in every color you could want. Revan's outfit really is in the armor and the soft parts just fill in the gaps so this might be a good option. If you want a little texture, rough linen looks great. The colors will be a little more limited, but you should be able to find something that will reflect his color scheme. Wool is nice for capes and cloaks but is really expensive. So, I would say cotton and linen are your best bets. Perhaps linen for the tunic and skirt part and cotton for the sash and other details?

Polyester and other man made fabrics tend to look cheap and costume like. Natural, that will be best.

It seems to me that fabric stores have sales every time you turn around and the sales are usually pretty good, like 40-60 % off. look for what you want, write it down and then play the sales. You came literally make your costume for half the price if you are patient.

Good luck.

Ive never looked into it, but I know our local 501st has a Revan- so must be in their books somewhere.

Stick with anything cotton based and you will be fine Smiley a bit of texture always adds to the effect, so something like osnaburg or linen and work nicely.
ive made my costume out of homespun cotton. Its heavier, softer and nicer than poplin or broadcloth while remaining cheap and available (for me locally at least) in a very wide range of colours. This isnt approved mind you, im planning to make my membership costume from osnaburg, just as soon as I track some of it down at a decent price lol Tongue

There actually IS a standard for Revan, here. http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:SL_revan
501st guidelines for anyone wanting to join with a Revan costume. Hope that helps.

I would consider where you live when choosing your fabrics as well.

Linen is good for layered costumes - it breathes and wicks heat and moisture away from the body.  I live in Texas, so linen is pretty important for costuming.
