It falls back to the basics...we can emote all day and night over styles, but it is what you have on hand, what you can actually go and learn that matters.

What do you have to choose from locally?

Apparently, nothing. lol. I know of no Dojos in my area, and a google search only turns up two. Both of which only seem to offer instruction at the "Junior" level. And one "MMA" type school, which I am not interested in, as I want to learn one specific style, not play UFC.

(I am assuming "Junior" and "Senior" are age groups, not skill levels. At least that's the way the terms seem to be applied, including in this thread.)

Victory School of Martial Arts...this guy, he made his own style and is the supreme grand master...I include this as an example, pls do not go here

Alick Smith's Nazareth Karate‎

But honestly your best set is to go the route we discussed via PM, join the service and travel, go places where there are choices.  Each base will have, promise!, on site training of some kind, for free, and others just off base.

Don't let the experience you had taint you.

My suggestion is to cross train in anything and everything that actually Works(because they will be trained too). Stay away from the "point/tap out" crap, because you will be fighting for your life and there will be no ref to stop it(until back up finally arrives). Train in things that involve REAL WORLD such as multiple opponents at one time and various locations(not just on the mat or a ring). You also want to train to use and be aware of your weapons (you will be carrying several on you at all time).  I also recommend looking into Force on Force training. YOU CAN NEVER BE TO PREPARED.  Rule #1 YOU GO HOME AT THE END OF THE SHIFT!

This is exactly why I lean towards Krav.  Especially the improvised weapons part.  Here's a great video from a Kali practitioner about using a baseball cap:

He does not have Krav in his area, which is the point I was making.

It would be great to learn Shaolin Kung Fu or Sanda as well as internal styles like Tai Ji, Qi Gong, Baji, Bagua and Xingyi taught by 32nd Generation Shaolin Masters...but unless you live in Jiangsu province near the city of Xuzhou then it is not really an option.

Might as well say Martian Lia Pau style is the best.

Anyone looking for a martial arts is fairly limited to what is in their area, what they can afford in time and money, and by logistics...if the best place is in another state well then that might be inconvenient.

Look into what is local, and then present those options.  This will provide a better platform to discuss options.

PS
Take any martial style that a lawyer can pick about in the court of public opinion, then you better not get into a fight...jail is not fun, even if you get to tell a cool story of how you won your fight, each and every day of your sentence serving time for assault.

yep it's a sap cap.   Krav follow the same principle of the Martial Science I train, Sogobujutsu, just from a different origin. They are basically "brothers from a different Mother" ...so to speak.  Grin

Play ufc? MMA is probably the toughest sport on the planet with studies showing that even the winner of mma matches ends up with at least 4 notable injuries. It would be down right impossible imo for a decent mma fighter to be in trouble in a real fight against one person without other people or weapons being involved. If nothing else the physical fitness needed makes them stronger and faster than your average person by leagues.

I have found, after a lifetime of training and matches, that it is the conditioned behavior that carries most professional pugilists through a non-sport fight. When you train to do a certain thing, then that is the thing you will do when put to the test.

Train for Olympic level archery, then in a non-contest situation like Hunger Games, someone hands you a bow and then a huge dog is released with your throat in its intent...chances are really good said dog will have at least one arrow making a modification in behavior.

The same is true for fighters.  Train to kick, punch, takedown, trap and lock, etc.  And this is what will happen.

Train to tap for points, just for takedown/pins, or other non-completion efforts and then the situation changes.

Back on topic, find out what is local, research, visit, take any offers of a free class or week, and work with what you have to work with.
