Recently, I began to notice some rather large and noticeable scratches on the Mid Grade blade of my Dark Initiate. It has only been through one duel and the blade already looks somewhat beat up. Is this normal?

Yeah, blades in general nick and gouge pretty easily - even though they are duel worthy, it's still plastic, so it won't take much to beat it up.

Just be careful dueling with your blade, since it's a midgrade - I wouldn't do any heavy dueling with it, especially against someone that's got a heavy grade blade - that's a recipe for a broken blade.

The blades have a bend but not break mentality so to speak. You can duel with midgrade/UE but they'll still get some dents and nicks. Heavy grade are sturdier and better for heavy dueling, but you'll lose a little bit of blade brightness.

Most of the guys I know have gotten a few grab bag blades for dueling, and keep one pristine for display.  Or display with a blade plug rather than a blade.  :-)

The HG blades get knicked up as well.  Sometimes you can clean them up and they look a lot better, but they never get back to pristine once you've made contact...

All three sabers I've purchased I've gotten with the Ultra-Edge Midgrade, and although I haven't gotten them yet I don't really plan on doing a whole lot of high-contact dueling.

If I ever started I'll probably end up buying a spare dueling blade or two.

All valid points. There is always buying the bargin grab bag blades on an order only $10 for a mid grade, 16 for heavy grade. Then you have the perfect beaters/ wasters. Originals saved for your wall or show. I got some spares that way myself
I will add depending on the scrape , rub I've had some mild success with running that white sponge called magic eraser made my armor all, takes out some light abrasions believe it or not . Can buy them in any store just about in the cleaning isle.
