Title: Rubberizing your grips.
Post by: JdiKnhtJMH on September 15, 2012, 08:41:00 AM
Performix plasti dip is a spray on rubber coating that comes in a number of colors. I selected black to use on my Qui Gon Consular. It requires 3 or more coats, so it can take a bit of doing, but it is well worth it in the end.  It comes out looking a bit like a leather wrap, but it will hold the shape of the saber underneath like machined grooves a bit better. I might be doing this on my Bane soon too, not really sure.

It greatly improves the grip of the weapon, and I feel like it also adds a contrast of textures thats needed in ultrasabers.

What was the base finish you sprayed it on (bare aluminum or anodized)? And how easily does it stand up to constant wear? I fear something like that might rub off or peel easily.

Some pics of the final product as well. This intrigues me for a future project, but I would like to know how it looks before I plan out a custom mod.

It holds on pretty well, I've used it on two sabers, one empty hilt to test it with a polished aluminum, and then on my qui gon with the black anodized.

You can see in that other one how it compares to the regular anodized finish.
