Title: Question about the Dominix V3
Post by: Lionus on September 01, 2012, 06:34:26 PM
Is the Dominix V3 MLS compatible? The Pommel is MHS compatible, So I am curious if the LED Module is also?

nope. On the MLS unit page in the store it tells you which hilts are compatible with it. I wish they were all compatible but alas... It has to do with the hilt construction. Pretty much all of the hilts with removable emitters are compatible, and the bellicose and raven have a wide enough openings when you take out the blade holder so they work too.

It's not, since the emitter isn't removable.

A little more detailed than my explanation :D

This can probably be locked.

I'm doing a custom build for my phantom so I wan to use a LEDengin RGBA in it, i'm wondering if it will fit in the non-MLS module?

so you want to take out the LED module that is in there and put a different LED in the module? the none MLS compatible sabers still have an LED module, just not the MLS because that has a lip that wouldn't let it fit in the regular sabers. Most of the LED's for sabers are the same size from what I've seen so you would just slide out the module, clip the wires close to the unit take off the LED somehow.. I haven't tried this so I don't know the best way... but then you'd just put the LED you want there and solder the wires (new ones maybe, to give yourself enough room to work) to the LED. I don't know if you'll have to modify the connection to the Obsidian board or not, but you'll want to figure out your LED's requirements and attach it appropriately.

Sounds like a fun project! good luck :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure as long as you have the right equipment (lens, etc) you should be able to fit it in the regular LED module.  I've never personally tried it, but if I do I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the info! I'm actually going to use an Igniter R3 with True color as the sound board. This will allow color mixing, as I have yet to see anyone with and RGB Dominix or Phantom. Just trying to get my sabersmith on a bit! I was actually looking at the video where Ultra was showing the module as he wired up an LED, and it looked to be about the same led just not RGB and it looked like it will work without the focusing lense as the module acts as a focusing cup. He also mention that there were extra holes in the back of the screw on backing were for RGB applications. Took me a little while to run across that video, but it was most informative! So Shout out to Ultra for that vid!  ;D

I'll ressurect the old thread, by asking - has someone of the forum members managed to do this?

I mean "Install different LED on the non MLS compatible saber, Initiate or Liberator for example".

Because the idea seems legit, and the LED unit can be somehow taken out from my Liberator, for example.

Look for threads that talk about Quick Disconnects and personal customizations. Buy an LED module and select the option for it to come with QDs (quick disconnects). The unit will come with the male and female ends with wires attached to the non-LED side of the QDs. You would need to take out the current LED module (not MLS unit, they are different but function the same) and put the extra QDs on the wires by either attaching the spare length of wire that has the QD on it or taking the QD off the spare wire and putting it on the internal wires of the hilt. With the QDs installed on both sides, you can swap out whatever color you want, as long as each LED module has a set of QDs.
