Title: Workstation pics thread!
Post by: deevee2 on November 27, 2018, 10:23:15 PM
Post up pics of where you work on your sabers when you are customizing them! Include pics of your current build you are working on!! I finally got around to finishing my work bench and it was super nice having everything within reach.

My Guardian build is 90% done, and I think I'm going to do the Aeon staff next. Then work on these replicas once some more parts arrive. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181127/0c603b0897224b63b391dec9d7f966df.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181127/1406073b5874fba109d7ec982c416cd1.jpg)

I’m, ya, your work area is wat too clean. I’ll post up what mine looks like when I get home.

I don't really have a workstation. I just drag all my stuff out, do my saber install on my desk, then put everything back in boxes. Limited space. ;)

Whoa. Incredible workspace there, DV

that was me for literally every wiring/electronics project before this one. had a fold out table I'd break out and set everything up on. I've done automotive electronics (specifically LED lighting, and LED controllers) for years so this isn't too far off from what I've been doing for a while now. so no this isn't just for sabers, but yes it will be extensively used for sabers haha.

I hadn't soldered in over 20 years before building my first saber. I wire up a handful a year, because I also buy complete sabers. So, it makes sense for me to do it how I do. If I soldered regularly, like many of you do, I'd clear a spot for something more permanent.

yeah this is for all my other house projects too, note the level, caulk guns/etc. but for 5+ years I regularly soldered on a fold out card table and setup all my gear, nothing wrong with that at all.

Due to having a 5 year old, it’s hard to have a work space at home so I mainly do work to my sabers during my free time at work. I have a workspace and several others for taking apart laptops.

yeah that's why I originally got an ESD mat - for replacing hardware on laptops; also use it for anything I handle with a microcontroller now. I've worked in IT for 15+ years and I feel old just typing that

Me too minus the 15 + years part, lol.  You’re not old unless you feel it

ha very nice. this is similar to mine when I'm mid-project but I usually have to clean everything up later otherwise I start to tools and parts. there's nothing more fun than spending a half hour wandering around your house looking for your needlenose pliers  ;D

Just be like me and have a pair in EVERY friggin room in the house!!😃 No, seriously though, I have way too many pairs of pliers. Didn’t have ANY area to any of this type of work for a LLOOOOONNNGG time. I was doing all of it at the kitchen table cause my shop is super full of motorcycle parts(and bikes themselves). So, I had a slab behind my mud room, and next to the master bedroom. The wife and I erected this room over a couple months span a few summers ago, and it’s only recently been ready for human activity. That being said, I don’t have to clean it, ever(at least my half).

hahahha some things I do have one of on every floor but I swear someone breaks into my house routinely just to hide my needlenose pliers and my 10mm sockets. I very recently just tossed a bunch of extra car parts from my garage that I assumed I'd use one day but never seem to get around to...the life of a car guy haha. what kinda bikes do you have? do you modify or mainly do self-maintenance?

I’ve got a 2002 xl1200s that’s bored, stroked, camed, and just about everything else you can do to a little sporty. There’s a 1999 zg1000 kawi sport tourer that’s being brought back from the brink out there. And I’ve got an 86 cx500, and and 86 gl500 that are in various stages of cafe racer build. The cx is all apart, the frame is chopped and was being prepped for a suspension change when I got the gl. So ya, friggin bikes. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve got cars too, but nothing cool. Unless you think a 94 gen 1 sploder or a 99 k2500 is cool.

nice man! I've always liked bikes but feel like I could never trust myself on one. also I live in a Metropolitan area where there is usually bumper to bumper traffic which is just terrible, but specifically for bikers with everyone else changing lanes every 5 seconds. I got a 4 door family sedan that eventually ended up with a turbo and 6 speed in it, this way wife can't say it's completely useless cause it still has 4 doors and does a hell of a job moving the groceries around. honestly man, anything you've customized is cool in my opinion, stock bikes/cars are boring. I go through waves where I like messing with my car, alternated with being sick of it and just wanting to Uber everywhere hahah

I have an 09 ZX10R sitting in my garage myself.

Hi everyone,

Now I can't afford to build sabers in solid form and I do all my building in 3D so I guess my workshop is my old laptop PC. Nothing special about my workstation but it gets the basics done and is kept fairly tidy  ;D

Regarding bikes, my last experience with two wheels was with an '86 Suzuki GSX-R 750 SACS on the runway of an abandoned airforce base. It belonged to a local (and partly mad) mechanic I knew and he was also a part time Pro racer. He was testing parts out on the bike one weekend and invited me to go along and help out.
Well I said he was mad...he let me try the bike. Kriffin Heck that thing could move! That right hand twister was so sensitive, I twitched and it opened and I was flying down the runway. (After I got over the shock and recovered he put a thicker handgrip on for me - so the amount of travel was increased making the throttle less sensitive.)

Bikes are beautiful and I love them but after that weekend I decided to leave best alone and just watch the professional "Aliens" ride them.

Air strip - nice! I've always wanted to take my car on some road like that and just go all out. I'm part of a small local car club so we got several people who have bikes too. Anytime I see those videos of guys going 200+ it blows my mind - looks amazing but not for me. I at least want some air bags lol.

Hi deevee2,

Well I can assure you I didn't reach anywhere near 200+! I couldn't afford the repair bills. I was actually lucky I loosened my grip and rolled out the throttle or I would have flipped, by sheer fluke the throttle settled and I accelerated fairly smooth then but those first few moments convinced me bikes weren't for me.
