Title: Fire Orange Shock LE Review
Post by: Ailric of KOTOR on October 30, 2011, 04:31:21 PM
Hey Saber Fans,
This is my review of the Shock LE. This is also my first review so I will do the best I can & hope everything turns out well.

1st. I wanna send a big thanks to Ultra for re-releasing this model as I did miss out on the first time it was released. But I did get a Consular, lol.

2nd. I wanna send a huge thanks to Emory aka Deep, for putting up with all my emails I sent him. I'm sure he was tired of seeing my name, lol.

Ok moving on, here's what I got.
I ordered the Shock LE w/Ultra Edge & Fire Orange LED. I added an Orange Activation Switch from TCSS, Obsidian USB Sound w/Li-Ion Batteries, Quick Disconnect, & round tip.

I wanna say that Jabsonic beat me on getting his Shock LE w/Fire Orange but I got mine with the Orange Activation Switch which is what he was thinking of, so I beat him to that., lol. I live in S. Florida so I added in the 3 day select shipping so it would arrive sooner as I wanted it then & now after placing the order.

My first impression upon seeing this saber was that this was a TOR saber.  "A more elegant weapon from a more civilized age"  This saber in my opinion looks like it came from the era of The Old Republic. It's 2 tone colors that compliment each other along with its design make this saber a joy to wield.
Its smooth yet sleek, beautiful yet deadly & its light weight body with a comfortable frame to grip make this one of UltraSabers best creations.

The Fire Orange & Ultra Edge Blade look great to me & in my opinion as others who share this will agree, Fire Orange is so under rated. Its just not given enough credit. I hope some of my pics can prove this. Even the batteries on half a charge when it arrives, still make this color stand out. The Obsidian USB sound is just incredible and if your debating on getting, just get it. Its so worth it in every way.

So on the day of its arrival I made sure to sleep in the living room as I had a bad feeling about the UPS guy not leaving my package. Especially cause I had to sign for it. Good thing that I did, cause this must have been a new kid as I barley heard him tap on my door. The other's ring the doorbell which is pretty loud & knock pretty hard. They do this a few times before leaving. This guy tapped & was walking away when I jumped up & ran for the door. I opened it & yelled out "HEY!!!" He looked back saying that he didn't think anyone was home. I told him he needed to knock louder & use the doorbell. I signed for my package and eagerly took it inside locking the door behind me. As I was becoming more awake & alert, I was feeling a bit like Indiana Jones discovering the Ark of the Covenant.
Then I started to notice the box more & more as I was looking it over deciding which side to open it from. There was almost a 45 degree angle bend in the box. Suddenly I was completely awake & a moment of fright hit me as I was saying out loud, "You've got to be kidding me?!" My thought was that the blade was bent or even worse, broke. Here's a picture of what the box looked like.

You can see by the bend marks where packages much heavier were stacked against it.

But thanks to UltraSabers, as I assume from complaints by others about UPS they started using different packing methods. I for one am glad. This is what the new wrap looks like.

They use a 2'x4' sheet of bubble wrap along with a some packing peanuts.

So while I had the measuring tapes out I decided to show the length of the saber.

After moving the bubble wrap & measuring tapes I was ready for first activation by me and was in utter awe of such elegance. I propped it up & snapped this pic.

I then place it on the floor & snapped this pic with the lights on.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6236/6294304087_5ee0b1209d.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65780915@N05/6294304087/)

Next was the real test... lights off & a little closer.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6238/6294303917_d8e66e1588.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65780915@N05/6294303917/)

I realized the flash was on, so I made sure to turn it off & take this next pic in the dark. I think this is the best picture of all.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6054/6294831336_fdf54e3dc1.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65780915@N05/6294831336/)

It took me a few days to take these pics as I was trying to get the best ones. Then I had to narrow it down to only these that I thought were the best to use for my review. There were quite a lot to go through, lol.
This saber is remarkable in every way. I love how all the colors from the duo tone hilt, to the blade color, & color of the activation switch all blend perfectly the way I envisioned it would. I think its the perfect saber & color for my character.  One that fits a Jedi of the Grey. Its strong & defiant but also artistic & elegant.
I've also wanted for years as my personal saber an Orange blade. It just stands out & is different from the rest. Thanks UltraSabers for making this possible.

Well that's it, sorry it was long but I wanted my first review to be informational. I also made a video & that took me about 50 tries to get it right along with recharging my phone or the batteries of the saber or both, lol. I will post that also. Your comments are welcome & I look forward to what those who read this will say. I hope it helps some that are trying to decide what to get, be it there First saber or Fifth.
Enjoy, Thanks, May the Force be with You, & Happy Halloween.

Excellent review!
I have been wanting to get one of those for a while, and I was thinking in green, but I really like the look of the Orange.
It is a shame that USP can't be more careful in their shipping, but Ultra compensates for that very well.  It is great to hear that you love this saber so much, congrats on your new weapon!

Did you request a orange AV switch on your order or did you order it separate and mail it in? As I have never seen the orange AV switch offered on ultrasabers. I know that the CSS has other styles of AV switches

I agree. I have 2 Ultra Sabers so far and they are great. I got a Dominix V2 LE in Blazing Red and a Liberator in Consular Green with Mid Grade blades. Next will be a Bellicose in Guardian Blue with a Heavy Grade blade and Obsidian sound. Nice saber though. Oh and my new saber will have a blue button too with a gold button.

@ Nightwing - Thanks, glad you liked my review. I think the Green would look really good with this model also. The duo tone colors of this saber plus the orange switch I think would look really nice. Hmmm, I do have quick disconnect.... but no this one stays Fire Orange, lol. After reading what happened to Nyte on his review & he's in Sweden, (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=1454.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=1454.0)) I had that moment of fright when I saw my box but glad UltraSabers has stepped up to the bubble wrap & packing peanuts.  ;D

@ Darth Tratus - Thank You.  8)

@ Kham-Ryn Kurios - I agree 100% & Fire Orange just rocks. I also have 1 mid grade & 2 heavy grade blades if I ever wanna see the color difference vs ultraedge & for dueling if I ever find someone in my area that has an UltraSaber. Cause dueling with an Ultra & a Master or Hasbro......ewww  :P

@ Vex - Thank you, thank you & thank you. Glad you liked the vid, I was pretty nervous about it & dont know why. Even though I used to be an actor but I thinks it was the combination of the camera, remembering what to say, show this, give thanks here & here, dont forget to mention this, etc... I think about 50 tries later I finally got a vid that I thought was good enough, lol. Silly I know  ::)

@ Grave13  - First I contacted Emory aka Deep ([email protected]) about my idea & the switch. Also asking which one I need to get from TCSS as there are 2 different types. He told me it would have to be SPST and momentary. Once I got the go ahead from Emory, I placed my order from TCSS & waited for it to be mailed to me. Upon delivery, I inspected the part first, left a note inside letting him know it was the orange switch & that it was from me. Then I taped it back up & mailed it off to him @ the UltraSabers address writing on the package Attn Shipping, so when it arrived they would send it to his department. I dont think Ultra will offer this switch as the color my not be as popular but then again you never know. He also seems to surprise us with something new when we least expect it.  :D

@ DarthCantus - Thanks for the compliment. Nice choice in sabers & future purchase.  :)

That is a beauty!  Congrats!  The Fire Orange is great looking with that hilt I think.  It's such a unique color too.

Again I am once again amazed at deep going above and beyond on his service. If I can find a way to arrange an award to be presented to him from my national guard unit that would be great. Ill have to inquire about this when I go to drill this weekend

This right here is why I'm starting to give Ultrasabers as presents to folks. The end of November can't get here soon enough so that I can give my brother in law his Dominix for his birthday.

Good call.  I got a Bane in VA for my brother's Christmas present recently, hopefully he'll like it.

@ Nero - Yes it is a beauty & thanks. I agree 100% that Fire Orange looks great with this hilt & is unique in color.  8)
Also I'm sure your brother will be blown away by his Bane w/VA. It has that beefy battle saber look.  ;D

@ Grave13 - Deep definitely came through with all the info & help. I'm sure I tested his patients with all my emails to him, lol.  ::)

@ Dark Lord Proscidior, Titus Solvan - When I said ewww regarding duels with an Ultra against a Master or Hasbro, I was meaning ewww  :P somebody wont be happy with a broken blade & leds  :'( , lol. Just wanted to be more clear. Gratz on getting your bro in law a Dominix for his b-day. What a great present to open.  :o

@ Amplus Vir - Thank you Brother of the Grey.  :)

Orange AV switches are not available at this time, only red blue and green.  You could see if they would be willing to install one that you send in perhaps... you'd have to email them using [email protected].

Hey Nero,I did write Emery,he told me they could install it for me,as long as I send them the right Size,I found several places that carry the switches I require, the only thing is I don't know what size I would need,I did write Emery back, but he since hasn't gotten back to me yet, there are two sizes that i think are the right one's,16mm,and 19mm,don't know what one is the right one.

Ah, good question.  I couldn't answer you with any confidence I'm afraid, I don't really have many technical specs on their equipment.  Best thing would be to wait to hear back from Emory.

Regardless, it's cool that it's an option!

Darthsinister,

I asked Emory as well about the size of an A/V switch installation and he responded that is needed to be a 16mm.  For a saber with sound, it had to be momentary, for a saber without sound it had to be latching.  Hope this helps.

I never really liked the shock, but after seing the pic, it looks really really nice, especially the LE with the orange blade.

Very nice setup mate.

I think the Aeon LE V3 would be nice in Fire Orange as well. I'm thinking about ordering one. The Fire Orange is a very nice looking color.
