Title: Lost Gray Pommel and Emitter Mods
Post by: Seano on April 02, 2017, 08:20:14 AM
Thought I'd spruce up the Lost Gray that I have (Sentinel Yellow LED's, and gold buttons), and add some gold highlights to the emitter and pommels, namely the knobbly bits on the pommel, and the silver parts of the removable emitter.
Initially I gave the pommel parts a couple of coats with some bright finish spay paint, but even after the 2 coats, it came out looking dull. So I've removed the paint, and given it an undercoat of white paint first, so hopefully that will eliminate the dullness issue. I've also painted the silver sections of the emitter, and the covertec wheel, as you can see below - just waiting for them to dry, before I cure them in the portable oven I use. With any luck, once finished they'll come out looking as shiny as the spray paint lid!

Alas, some bad news. I painted both the emitter and pommel, and they came up looking quite good, if a bit dull - not as shiny as shown on the spray paint lid. Unfortunately, as I was screwing the emitter back into the sabre, the paint started scraping off, even after 3 coats, a gloss coat, and being cured in the oven  >:(
So I've just stripped the emitter back to the aluminium, will maybe give it another go down the line, as I'm thinking of sending it back and getting it upgraded to Emerald.
I also changed the pommel painting, I thought a whole band of gold was a bit boring, so just painted the bumpy bits!

Sorry to hear about the emitter.  That's a bummer.  However, the pommel looks great.  It was a good call to have only the boxes that stick out gold, it looks better than having the whole ring gold.  :)
