I'm in the process of building my own saber, and I was interested in installing an on-hilt charge port, but I want to make sure I'm not going to fry my electronics. Thanks!

If not, you can ask Ultrasabers if they can sell you their port for the 1.2A Smart Charger, which should definitely be compatible.
