Title: Vintage Graflex w/ Obsidian?
Post by: soccerguy19 on September 05, 2011, 05:00:10 AM
I just bought a vintage Graflex on ebay and I'm going to transform it into an ESB version saber. Chassis, crystal chamber, sound, the whole nine... and I'd like to have the option to duel with it (I probably won't, but if a random saber brawl breaks out and it's all I got, I can't just not jump in!) so an Obsidian seems like the way to go. Has anyone built a Graflex with an Obsidian yet? It would be BA to be the first!

The only question I would have is how you're going to go about porting your speaker without detracting from the look of the saber.

What Jammo said. I assume it's most likely possible, buy I'd be interested to see how myself.

Oh, and considering how new the Obsidian is, I would expect that you would be the first. if you pull it off.

Like most other Graflex builds I won't put any holes in the hilt. There will be some space between the speaker and pomel for resonance and with a premium speaker that should be loud enough. I may add a groove or two in the bottom section under the clamp so some more sound can escape though. Pics will absolutely be posted upon completion.

That is some pimptastic engineering. May the Force be with you in this project.

I have made such a vintage graflex.  It is called "Rougue II"  I have replaced the top with a brass one, and have placed four speakerholes in the bottom.  It powers a lux rebel royal blue, with a blue accent led for the aqua aura crystal.  It is mounted on a disk based chassis I have constructed myself.  It is powered by a single 18650, 2500mAh at 3.7V.  It is also equipped with my own magnetic d-ring retention system, to keep the d-ring from clacking about, when swinging the saber around. Pics are soon to follow.  The top piece will be used in a graflexshop MHS hybrid saber to be completed for dual-wield.  The second saber will be clampless, for spinning  purposes.
