Title: Remote Starter
Post by: justmutantjed on October 18, 2014, 10:19:17 AM
So, I was watching "The Big Bang Theory" the other day (I'm a big fan), and I noticed that in one episode, "Howard" has a couple of sabers (regrettably they don't have the taste to go Ultra) above his bed rigged up to remote controls. Has anyone else tried this trick, and/or is it possible? I'd be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

That would require rewiring them quite considerably though - you would need them to run soley off the mains for that. The way to do it would be to rewire only the wiring between the momentary switch and the sound board (or replace the switch on a stunt) and have it so that you add in a wireless recieve, something like a radio reciever or sorts, and then use the remote to turn it on and off.

Chances are you'd have to make your own radio reciever as youd be hard pressed to find one small enough 'off the shelf' to fit inside a hilt, but in theory it should be fairly simple once you have the parts.. It would literally just act as the switch for the saber.

Our you could build a remote recorder into the mount.out would control a mechanical "finger" that could push the button. That way you could still take the saber down to play with or change the decor without morning each saber.

I know the episode that you are talking about ( I'm also a big fan of the show). I have seen some non-Ultrasaber remote activated sabers somewhere. Maybe if you took the receiver from that, you could put it into a Ultrasaber.

Definitely possible. I've got a remote-power-button-thingy somewhere, but no means to actually plug the saber into the wall.

To mount the saber i used maglite C or D wall clamps - C clamp fits all sabers that are 1.5" (V3's, and others) and them D clamp fits things like V2's
