Title: Mask design.
Post by: junkeez on August 14, 2014, 12:47:58 PM
Hi there, I need some help with ideas for designs for masks. I want to make it myself and I'm on a bit of a budget so I decided to try and buy a mask and repurpose it. I have three options: a plain mask, an iron man mask and a welding mask. I'm gonna respray them all and add pieces of ofc tubing and stuff but I was wondering if anyone had any idea for paint on it? The colour scheme will be black mask with purple on it. Any ideas would be massively appreciated.

I have seen a couple of people make some pretty nice customizations out of Iron Man masks.

I was also wondering, what's the best material to use for a visor that I can still see through. I'd like to get some sort of thin purple plastic to use but I have no idea what would work best.

If you have some sort of store that sells welders or cutting torches, they should have darkened face shields. We have one at my job that's a dark green but its kind of hard to see out of when the light is low.

As for thin purple plastic, I've never tried this, but what about using some of the translucent filter material for concert and stage lighting, like what people use for filters in AS-colored lightsaber blades?  The stuff is thin and you'd probably have to put some kind of thin plexiglass in front of it to protect it, but it might achieve the colored look that youre going for and help to hide your eyes when wearing it.

Just a thought.

You can buy that stuff in sheets, maybe like 24 inches square for about $7.00 or so, I think.  Roscolux and Lee are the big companies, Google them.
