Title: New Saber: Ultrasabers Reaper & Crimson Reaper
Post by: Deep on January 14, 2013, 04:34:54 AM
Ultrasabers is proud to present the new Reaper & Crimson Reaper.  This saber features both a slanted emitter and a slanted pommel.  And perhaps the most stand out features on this saber are the claw on the emitter and the claw on the pommel.  Both add a flare unique to the Reaper that will make this a stand out saber in your arsenal.  And of course the 5 elongated windows in the emitter make the Reaper both a beauty and a BEAST!  The silver shroud below the emitter, on the neck of the saber, is a great addition to this Ultrasaber that gives it a look and feel all it's own.  It also doubles as a great place for your offhand for our two handed saber wielders.  The Reaper has also been anodized black and the Crimson Reaper has been anodized red and they feature a unique groove pattern machined into the body, yet another feature that will draw all the attention this this saber that it deserves.

This saber is built with the highest quality T6 Aircraft grade aluminum. It will stand up to rigorous use time and again. The materials used to forge this weapon are second to none. Aircraft grade aluminum and CNC machined precision goes into the creation of every saber in the Ultrasaber.

This saber comes standard with a covertec wheel installed.

The saber comes completely assembled and ready to go. This is a four piece saber (emitter, neck, body, and pommel) and all four pieces are MHS compatible.  In addition the neck shroud and both claws are removable.  This saber is 15" long from emitter to pommel and 1.450" wide at the body.  This saber is 19.5" long from claw to claw with both claws equipped.

what more is there to say?....

A few q though.
-Could we get a detailed view of it broken down into the four parts?
-are the claws interchangeable?
-are there plans to bring it out in a nickel plated version?

Love the combination of the flanged shroud under the slanted emitter with windows. Looks like there is a blade retention screw in the pommel as well. Guessing you can use that pommel as an emitter up top or on another saber.

Holy crap! I thought I was locked in for my next saber, but don't look now! here comes more mind blowing action! These look super cool, and kind of remind me of tron a little. Something a techie jedi would use.

I REALLY hope that it won't get scratched real soon. I mean, not heavily scratched, but those tiny little scratches that usually get rid of polishing.

The anodizing is actually quite durable! I got my son a red anodized SI when they were available and it has proved just as durable as my black anodized sabers .

Well am I delighted to hear that! I have a Raven and a Bellicose, they are both non-anodized and they look a bit... worn. Is it not the case with anodized sabers?

I just noticed there's a subtle grooved detailing on the crimson emitter that's absent from the black...

Sooooooo, how long before we can get those emitters, claws, and pommels as parts? :D

If they follow the release of the Manticore back in early November, it should be VERY soon.  Here's hoping...

I also wondered whether the silver ring was part of the pommel or body.  If you notice in the vid, you can see the bottom of the silver section inside the pommel, below the level of the ring.  If the pommel is MHS and screws into the body, I'm thinking the ring is part of the pommel...which is a good thing for those of use aiming for the parts rather than the saber.   ;D

Question to the US - if the LEDs used there are LED modules, and not MLS, how will FoC function with these replacable LEDs?

Just when I thought I was don with sabers for a while, you guys keep reeling me in!  :D Those sabers are the epitome of awesome.  It looks like I just found my next saber, once I get the funds.

Deep and Ultra, did you ever consider having a dark blue anodized Reaper, calling it the "Midnight Reaper"?  That would be too cool to have.

You can now get LED modules with FoC. So you can get FoC for your LED modules if you so choose.  ;D

Wow that saber design is someone else!   :o It amazes me that you can offer such a Saber for only $150 when it's  unique design and MHS compatibility would make it seem to be worth twice that much.

This made my day.  I went to show one of my teachers a video on YouTube and this is the first thing I saw and I freaked out.  I spent the rest of class just looking at it and calculating how much I would have to save.  I must have a crimson reaper with sound.

Hot Hoover Dam! :o That is one dangerous looking saber. However, I still like my (soon-to-be-purchased) consular better.

Also-- Am I the only person who thinks that the claws look like a set of brass knuckles?

I know cussing is rare on here and mostly not allowed but that is one badass saber. I really want one now. Claw on the bottom for a canon Darth Bane look. Getting me the black one in Violet Amethyst with an Ultra Edge heavy Grade blade, Obsidian with li-ions and buck puck, and red av switch. ;o Ultra Sabers just keeps getting better and better and it seems the Sith is taking over again. Unless a new Jedi saber comes out this'll be my next order.

Based on complementary colours, CG would be the best bet for the Crimson; with AB as runner up and SY and GB getting honourable mentions.  For the Dark Reaper, the door's wide open.

Title: Re: New Saber: Ultrasabers Reaper & Crimson Reaper

As per Emory's vid, it's an MHS neck/shroud.  It should be removable and allow just the slanted emitter to screw into the hilt body.  The "shroud" reference leads me to believe the the lower portion may be a hollow lip (?) hiding a small portion of the body end.  Hopefully early adopters will send pix within the next few days...

I believe that the Bane that Ultra Sabers makes is the Canon Bane. Path of Destruction isn't considered canon to the regular Star Wars universe.  Drew Karpyshyn got the license and made his own Bane story.  Just my two cents, I guess.

But I think this'll be my next saber too.  ;)

Ehh.  A red hilt with a green blade would be too christmasy for me.  Sentinel yellow maybe though.  That would make Kham proud but it would look better on the Dark Reaper.

Was sittin at work thinking to myself that I wanted to pick up another lightsaber come tax time. Went and checked my e-mail, lo and behold my next lightsaber choice has already been made for me =). These 2 sabers look incredible, and the single claw is exactly what I need to give my Dark War Glaive staff that extra kick. Sooooooo psyched

WOW that's a pretty saber!

Not a fan of claws in general though.  I'd take them off...I bet it would look good with a Prophecy or Guardian pommel, too.  And it's about the same diameter as the Prophecy....would fit nicely in my hands.... hmm.  May have to consider this for the future.  :)

By the Force, I cannot believe what I'm looking at....... These things are absolutely breath taking! First time I've ever seen claws on the emitter, lovin the computer board design on the hilt though. I might get one after tax season! Might go with the red saber. Got way too much black at my house!

Just incredible! I was almost expecting these to be a doublebladed saber at first glance......

So i don't know if anyone else noticed but it seems like the claw on the pommel would be useful for switching between the standard and underhand styles.

Holy crap on a cracker!  It's like a lightsaber for Tron!  If only it came in blue.  Definitely getting this, and it's definitely the next one i'm getting, unlike the Manticore which ended up just being the emitter.  I like the removable claws because i can't decide whether i like it better with or without them.  Anyone planning on making these a staff?

So they make it with a regular LED Module (not an MLS) but can add Quick Disconnects.  The saber is still compatible with MLS units right?  And the LED Module with Quick Disconnects that they'd put in (if you chose the option) would be compatible with other Quick Disconnect equipped sabers?  Thinking of getting the Crimson with an Arctic Blue since that's not a color i have or had planned on getting in other potential sabers and wanted to make sure it would give me an AB LED to put in other sabers.

Title: Re: New Saber: Ultrasabers Reaper & Crimson Reaper

What you would have to do there is unscrew the housing for the LED and swap it with the opposite kind since MLS is bigger at the top than the LED unit.

I'll definitely be getting one of these when the funds permit! I like the fact that the claws are removable, my local convention is kind of touchy about those things.
That, and it allows the saber to be even more customizable- total win!

And here I was the only one on here thinking the same thing about this saber, I was at first dead set on getting the Manticore , but then here comes this saber and I was thinking well crap now they got a Savage Oppress looking saber now.  Im a huge fan of the  Zabrak brothers it would be great if I could afford both but can only have one for my birthday present. The reaper just looks so wicked and is my idea of a sith saber. So I will more than likely get the Crimson Reaper.

Personally, although I'm not a huge fan of the overall look of the Reaper, I love that Ultrasabers are pushing the boundaries of what they're able to do. It's very complex and detailed. Even though this particular one is not for me, I'm really looking forward to the next thing they come up with.

Got my reaper CG today and its awesome!
Great feel to it, loving the detail. Definitely will be posting a review soon.
Just a couple of things to point out though:
The blade retention screw is underneath the shroud, so if you keep the shroud on it won't be as easy to remove the blade.
Also, not sure if this is the case with all reapers or just mine, but the screws holding the claws on don't sit flush with the inside of the emmitter, making it more difficult to slide the blade out. Not that it matters to me mind you, I reckon it looks better without the claws.
Oh, and as everyone has said, if you have Obsidian, the speaker is definitely not going anywhere, they have installed a barrel inside the pommel, and the fact that its not restricted makes the sound just that much more awesome!

i also got my crimson reaper today and i am very pleased with it. when i opened it up and looked at it and noticed that the claws didnt line up with the button  it kind of bothered me.  after playing around with the set screws on the pommel and emmiter i finally got it all lined up how i wanted it. i put both claws on the opposite side of the button because the bottom claw didnt look right being on the other side of the top claw , plus the bottom claw isnt in the way of my forearm. to Moebius Omega- i took a look at the screws inside the emmiter on mine and they are flush to the inside( well as flush as a flat head screw can get to the curve of the emmiter).  you might have to tighten them down just a bit more to get them seated all the way but i wouldnt crank down too hard.

I Agree about the shroud, although it looks amazing it does make removing the blade more difficult, Ive removed the shroud and pommel claw- makes spinning and combat  easier, the hilt has some great engravings and sits well in the palm. I also tried swapping the pommel with my war glaive pommel and actually it looks pretty neat, love the slanted emitter and windows, gives the saber a different and menacing look. All in all, what can I say? its an ultrasaber: it is superior.  8)

Forgot to mention, because of the hollow pommel, this thing is LOUD, significantly louder than my W.Glaive- first time I activated it my wife threw a shoe at me :)

What's peoples opinion on the colour of blade for the crimson reaper? Is red the only colour that will work or will blue or green work??

Green blade on a crimson saber would make a nice Christmas saber. A blue blade with silver FoC would be a great 4th of July or patriotic saber for anyone who's flag is red, white and blue.  :)

I would email them first but, I would assume you could. It would cost $10 and you would have a hole where the wheel was previously placed.
Hope this help.

My latest one matches perfectly.  The first one is slightly different but not too noticeable.  Its not really a difference in color so much as a difference in luster...the top section is shinier than the bottom.  I polished it with some car wax and it evened things up nicely.

If you wield a Reaper you will find your hand naturally fits on the shroud, and this is where your hand is when you are spinning the saber.  The switch doesn't get in the way at all, particularly if you choose an AV switch.

if your hand is big enough that is, mine are quite small for my height, so i took the shroud off

I just got back on my star wars kick a month or two ago and realized that a lightsaber was the most basic necessity. After seeing this beauty I was nearly brought to tears. I finally ordered it on monday and am still stuck in the processing stage. Definately not a complaint. If it takes three weeks for it to be perfect then I will wait! I was just curious as to how long alot of you guys had to wait for your orders to process or if there is another post that has estimates I could look at.

Thanks guys. I'm super excited to join you all here!

It hope so too. I may be six weeks off my next purchase (roughly, and I have a holiday first so it may be longer) but it was still an unwelcome surprise to see the message pop up when I went onto my account the other day.

I expect it should be back on sale in a couple of weeks, judging by previous instances. I imagine they'd have pulled it from the site all together if they weren't going to have it back in stock any time soon.

Would a Crimson Reaper look good in Fire Orange? Just thought of this. o_o My inner Dark Side is coming out. Lol. Also how sturdy is the entire hilt? I've been wondering that about both Reapers really. And does the bottom claw get in the way of spinning/dueling?

Title: Re: New Saber: Ultrasabers Reaper & Crimson Reaper
Post by: James Casey on July 18, 2013, 08:17:50 PM
I suspect a CR would look awesome in orange. It seems like the hilts are as sturdy as any US, which means very of course ;D

As for the claws, I think it depends on your style of dueling. If you do lots of flourishes, I can imagine the lower claw catching your arm sometimes, but of course it can be removed easily enough, or adjusted to suit your style.

The lower claw did catch my arm whilst spinning. I adjusted it first, then took it off entirely. But that is just my preference

I'm sure it could be done (in fact, I did it myself) but it is a very tight space.

It must be the fact that it really is a tight space in there. I purchased one of the first they sold, and QD was an option then, so I got it. I now have 3 LED's for it, but it is a little bit of a pain to deal with. It's because of the wire slack, and trying to manipulate it around the activation switch. Plus, I have a recharge port on it, so again, more space taken up. I guess an email to Deep or Ultra couldn't hurt either, since they can clarify anything we can't.  :D

My only complaint with the Reaper is the fact that you have to take off emitter and remove the silver portion to get to the blade retention screw.  Other than that, it is a magnificently fine saber.

Turns out I've been underpaid for the last little while, and so next month will see a fairly tidy chunk of cash landing in my bank account ;D

Now, there's bits of DIY to cover around the house, but even so I'm hopeful that by the end of next month I may just have my tricked-out Crimson Reaper in hand. Really looking forward to placing that order!

You'd have to e-mail US to confirm ([email protected]) but I don't think you can. As far as I'm aware, they receive the complete hilts from their supplier, which I presume includes any drilling for the claw holes etc.

So can anyone tell me about the size and weight of this thing? I ordered a scorpion saber and it was very sadly too big for my small stature, fortunately a friend of larger stature wanted to buy it from me. I am 5'8'' and 140 lbs so I like light, fast, and precise (Makashi Form) over power, unless I have a pike or something to provide extra leverage. So can this saber be handled one handed?

Title: Re: New Saber: Ultrasabers Reaper & Crimson Reaper
Post by: Racona Nova on April 02, 2014, 09:23:44 AM
I don't have the exact lenght, but this one is one of the longest hilts US provides. For you, Form II should be easier with the smaller, lighter hilts like the Aeon/Dominix, Archon, even the Manticore or the Shock. Taller or stronger people could also use it with the heavier hilts, but mostly these heavy things are supposed to be used two-handed, which disagrees with the Form II where you normally only use one hand.

It is not impossible, but difficult for smaller, "weaker" people.

A comparison with a fair few other 'sabres that US offer. It's definitely one of the longer hilts, although quite a lot of that is down to the claws. It's not much longer, pommel tip to emitter tip, than the Bellicose.

So just an update, I was fortunate enough to have a friend that ordered the crimson reaper, I went and played with it yesterday. I have come to the decision that...... It is not too big for me! I have now just ordered a reaper w/ sound, AV switch, in AS with disks and I will be receiving it in about a week! (that's usually how long it takes for it to process and ship to UT) :) Pretty excited, This will be my first US that I own! I got a phantom initiate v3 for my brother as a present, finally I will have my very own! Thanks again for input and advice. Pics pending arrival.

It is slightly shorter than the Manticore with high-profile pommel. With a low-profile pommel on the latter it's slightly longer. It's still a comfortable two-handed hilt, though.
